Today’s Tech Talk Is Google Really Safe?
Well today was the day that information came across that a hacker found a exploit with Google Buzz in their mobile application and of course this makes it even worse for others that use the web page part of Google.
Well this is another reason for not putting your private in a cloud computing system like Google. I have been migrating all my accounts and files to my personal computer as of last year due to concerns of Cloud Computing and how vulnerable it is to hackers. Is this another hit to Google in their business section of Cloud Computing. Do you really want to have your files exposed to the internet if they cannot be protected from hackers? I know I would not want that if I was in a business and having sensitive materials moving from one place to another.
I think people are starting to learn that right now Google is in position to take on a lot of flak from big businesses and there is a better way to protect your files from hackers. Take a look at the article which goes into detail of what was exploited and a quote I pulled from the article showing how Google is failing in the security department.
Security Bug Opens Google Buzz to Hackers
However, the security flaw underscores another important issue, said Hansen, a vocal Google critic. "Google really can’t be trusted with sensitive information because they can’t protect their own applications."
If I was in the business of protecting my clients from intrusions I sure would find a way to protect more sensitive materials then coming out and saying we are aware of the problem it will be fixed shortly.
Lets not forget the Google Buzz debacle and since the inception of Google Buzz everyone has been upset that you were automatically put into the “Buzz” without even asking you if you wanted to participate in the program. I know one thing I was glad that I don’t use the web interface of GMAIL so I was not expose to the what people are running into having their most frequently contacts added to your Buzz profile. That is one of the reason I do not use the web interface GMAIL due to lack of security on Google’s part.
One thing I do have to say is that I still cannot find the function to deactivate or activate Google Buzz or even the settings to make privacy changes with my Buzz profile, either it is hidden or Google failed to turn it on for some users. I was able to change a few things but alas not everything was their after reading some articles and looking at some pictures and saw them there.
