A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Thursday in the South Pacific northwest of Vanuatu, triggering a tsunami warning for several countries in the Pacific, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The epicenter was located 232 miles north-northwest of Santo, Vanuatu’s largest island, at a depth of 20.5 miles, the agency said.
