I drive this highway all the time and I am glad I have not run into someone like this I hope I never get into that situation.

HALTOM CITY – A major state highway closed for hours early Friday morning after a man crashed into a big rig while driving on the wrong side of the road.

Calls poured into 9-1-1 when motorists noticed a car heading northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 121 in Haltom City about 2:20 this morning.

Police quickly rushed to the area and tried to pull over the purple Chevy Cavalier. They say the driver briefly paused on the shoulder, then took off again for several more blocks as officers approached him.

As the Cavalier got close to Carson St., police say the driver clipped the rear axle of an oncoming 18-wheeler.

Police say the impact killed the car’s driver. The 18-wheeler driver was not injured.

Traffic investigators closed down southbound Highway 121 at Handley-Ederville to Carson. Traffic was diverted to Midway Rd., then back onto the freeway at Carson St.

Police re-opened the freeway around 7:15 a.m.
